How to Repair Hooker Valencia Arroz Recliner Chair - Part 2 of 2 - Rear Legs

Supplies and Tools:  
Coping saw (manual)
Tack hammer
Decorative brass leg tips (from Manufacturer)
Dowels Birch rods 3/4 in. 
Elmer's Glue-All® 4 oz.
Everbiltbrass legs tips
EverbiltPainter's soft tarp new
Hammer
Measuring tape
Nail Setter 2/32 in.
Newspaper (dust containment)
Pencil #2
Ryobi electric drill
Ruler
Tac hammer
Titanium Drill Bits  
Utility knife

Mrs. Black is a Chef on a on the Creative Cooking Channel. She called me to have a favorite Valencia Arroz Recliner Chair repaired. The chair had lost four brass disc. Temporary sliders will be placed until the manufacturers brass discs arrive. Upon investigation it seemed that the leg had been replaced and secured by drilling a large hole for a large stainless steel screw. Whomever repaired the legs did not replace the brass discs. Mrs. Black wanted the chair repaired immediately and she had ordered to new legs and brass discs for her chair.

This post shows the fourteen steps to repair a Hooker Valencia Arroz Recliner Chair leg replacement.

Step 1: Fig.1 shows above right all the tools needed for this temporary repair.
Step 2: Fig.2 below shows the back leg had a large hole. The hole was measure by width and then by length

Step 3: A Birch Dowel Rod 3/4 in. by 3 feet was purchased. The birch dowel was to big for the leg hole. Fig.3 below shows that the dowel was reduced with a standard fixed blade utility knife.

Step 4: Fig.4 below shows the reduced dowel being pushed into the leg hole. This had to be done several time until the hole was filled solidly.

Step 5: Fig.5 below shows the final adjustment was made on the chair leg and the dowel was marked by a #2 pencil.

Step 6: Fig.6 shows the dowel is marked for cutting.

Step 7: Fig.7 below shows the dowel was cut by a coping saw on an old newspaper to contain saw dustBut a tarp would have been better to keep the area clean.

Step 9: Fig.9 and fig.10 shows that each back leg has the dowel firmly seated within the wood leg.

Step 10: Fig.11 shows a Ryobi electric drill with Titanium Drill Wood Bits drilling in the middle of the dowel to make just enough room for the brass nail.

Step 11: Fig.12 shows Everbilt™ Brass legs tips that will be placed in the newly drilled hole.

Step 14: Fig.15 shows Magnetic Tack Hammer to finish the job. Just little taps not hammer taps.
