How to Install a Portable Air Conditioner - Part 1 of 2 - Patio Wall

Supplies and Tools:
Caulking
Caulking gun
Claw hammer
Cordless screwdriver
Drill brad point bit  1/4
Level (As large as the AC unit)
Pencil #2
Phillip bit #2
Jigsaw blade (wood)
Jigsaw Power Tool

Tyler Zowat, noticed the listing and called me to come to his home in Perris, California. He had a new patio installed late last summer and he noticed that the heat made it difficult to watch his new flat screen television. He had tried various portable A/C units but none of them seamed to cool down his patio area. Finally he purchased a wall mounted Frigidaire with a 10,000 BTU that could cool down an area of 500 square feet. Tyler purchase it from his local The Home Depot.

This post shows the six steps to installing a a Portable Air Conditioner in a patio wall.

Step 1: Above right fig.1 shows the box that housed the new ac unit. Fig.2 below shows the Frigidaire Portable Air Conditioner that will need to be installed.

Step 2: Fig.3 and fig.4 shows both sides of the wall that the client wanted the ac placed.

Step 3: Fig.5 and fig.6 shows that a penciled line was placed in the wall where the ac unit will be installed. The purpose of using a cordless drill is to Drill all four corners to aid in placing the jigsaw blade into the patio wall. Fig.6 shows the right side was drilled.

Step 4: Fig.7 shows the that the drill reached the outside of the patio wall.

Step 5: Fig.8 shows using a level will aid in marking off the opening for the ac unit.

Step 6: Fig.9 Use the level as a guide and draw the ac opening. Notice below the rectangle is ready to be cut by a jigsaw. Notice that bottom has been drilled ready for the jigsaw blade to cut the opening. The next post will show how this job was finished.
