Michael works for a program called Uncommon Good that teaches students about green energy. His home is located in Upland, California, a beautiful neighborhood with mature trees in a rural setting. He had just purchased a century-old home and wanted to preserve its look. Being a principal member of Uncommon Good, he was using the house to teach others how to go green. He called my repair service to solve the problem with a glass pane window door.

This post shows the two steps to troubleshoot the window panes in the wood door.

Step 1: Fig.1 shows the glass pane door that needs repair. Every window pane was loose, they had lost any caulking between the wood and the glazing. The solution required caulking each and every window pane in this door.
Step 2: Fig.2 and fig.3 shows that each window pane has missing caulking and some window panes were missing glazing putty. Each window rattled when the door was opened or closed or if there is any wind outside the entire door would perform a symphony of glass panes. This is the door to the patio.

  1. Gary, great article, Did you need to remove each pane to install "glazing putty?" Would it be possible to show pictures (if you have them) of you applying the "glazing putty" and caulking? What department of Home Depot or Lowe's can "Glazing Putty" be found?
