How to Replace General Electric Refrigerator Interior Water Filter

Supplies and Tools:
General Electric® M.S.W.F. refrigerator filter 
Large narrow water container

Mrs. Marie Antoinette purchased a new 2010 General Electric® refrigerator. She had been traveling and had barely used the refrigerator and she had turned it off when she was out of town. 

This post shows the nine steps to replacing the General Electric interior filter. 

Step 1: Fig.1 above right shows the filter and the box, and fig.2 shows the refrigerator filter light (green) had come on and she wanted the filter replaced.

Step 2: Open the door and removed the old water filter by twisting the filter counter clockwise.
Step 3: Below in fig.3 shows the water filter cap and in fig.4 shows how to place the filter cap into the filter area. This prevents air from entering the refrigerator water lines.

Step 4: In fig.5 shows the filter below still has the foil on the top of it and this filter is safe to use in the refrigerator. Some filter when purchased have loose filter foil and thus might have been used in another refrigerator.

Step 5: Below in fig.6 through fig.7 is the removal of the foil on top of the refrigerator filter.

Step 6: Fig.8 shows the new filter and turn the filter clockwise into the filter slot.
Step 7: Fig.9 the filter is ready to be used.

Step 8: Now get a large narrow container and use the refrigerator water dispenser until all the air is removed from the refrigerator line. 
Step 9: You would think that after all this these steps the job would be done, but its not. Notice on the refrigerator the light is under a button. To stop the light from being on, press on the light for thirty seconds and the light will turn itself off. Now Mrs. Marie Antoinette can have a nice cold glass of clean water from her refrigerator.

How to Repair Leaking Copper Pipe Water Damage in a Ceiling Loft

Cordless drill and Phillips bit
Ladder 6-feet
Latex primer white
Mini roller frame and mini roller
Mud
Sheetrock 1-5/8 coarse screws

A young couple saw my add in the PennySaver in San Bernardino County. Carl and I went and gave an estimate for repairing the ceiling inside a kitchen loft. The copper pipe needed to be repaired, we bid it but the customer had a plumber in his family that repaired the leaky copper pipe. We picked up our supplies and fixed this job together.

This post shows the ten steps to repairing a ceiling leak inside a ceiling loft.

Step 1: Set up the ladder underneath the repair and fig.1 shows the copper had been repaired and the ceiling needs work.

Step 2: There was a light near the ceiling damage, fig.2 show Carl dissembled the lamp to check how close the damage was to the water damage.

Step 3: Fig.3 shows the rough edges of the ceiling being cut straight in preparation for new wall board.

Step 4: Fig.4 shows the installation of the ceiling supports being placed on both sides of the ceiling damage to hold the new wall board. 
Step 5: Fig.5 shows below left, Carl is trimming the ceiling wall board piece.

Step 6: Fig.6 shows the handyman starting to place the new wall board into the damage ceiling.
Step 7: Fig.7 shows Carl is screwing the wall board into the ceiling supports with sheetrock 1 5/8 coarse screws.

Step 8: Not shown, mud was applied the ceiling and wall board edges in one smooth coating.
Step 9: Once the mud coating was dried, the area was dry sanded and texture was applied. 
Step 10: The ceiling was coated with one coat of latex white primer, the customer had someone else paint the ceiling. The job being done and now the young couple are out looking for their next flip home. Carl and I learned that some job can be rewarding when two good partners work together in God's glory.

How to Turn Off Your Water Main Supply

How do you turn off the water in your home, if the house valve does not work? 

This post is going to show different problems on how to turn off the water in your home.  Follow the steps below to learn how to turn off the house water using the house valve, and the main water valve at the street. 

The problem:
An restate inspector is visiting your home for a potential sale and after the inspection has been done for the entire home, the inspector has found a small drip in the kitchen sink area.

The action:
The client has hired a handyman and he looks underneath the sink and has found a damaged stop valve. The stop valve is the valve that allows water to the kitchen faucet.  

The Solution: 
In this example turning off the stop valve underneath the sink will not solve the problem. The reason is that if the stop valve is turned off, the faucet will have no water.

Step 1: Go to the house and turn off the water at the house main. Look at fig.2 shows the ball valve has been turned off. These valves are push up to turn off the water. Some valves have to be turned around in a circle called gate valves which will also turn off the water to the house.

Step 2: The water has been turned off and now the handyman can do the repair work.

The problem:
This is a continuation from the problem above.

The action:
The handyman can not use the house main valve because water is leaking past it. 

The Solution: 
At this point the only solution is to turn off the water at the street.

Step 3: Fig.3 shows the handyman using a water shutoff tool to remove the street cover to get to the water main.

Step 4: Fig.4 shows the cement cover has been removed and the water gauge cover has been folded back. The number will move if the water is in use.

Step 5: Fig.5 shows the tool is placed in the water valve turn on/off knob and by twisting the tool the water can be turned off. Very rare does the water valve have an handle to turn off the water manually. This is done to stop unauthorized people from turning off the house water.  The tool give the handyman the leverage to turn the valve above ground without damaging the water main valve. If you look at fig.1 the on/off valve looks like a minus sign, a narrow bar, that controls the flow of water into the home.

Step 6: Fig.6 shows the water is turned off and the handyman can do the repairs.
