How to Repair Japanese Futon Bed - Part 2 of 5 - The Wood Foot

Tools and supplies: 
Angle brackets (Simpson Tie Bracket)  
Black oxide drill bit set
Bit holder with Phillip tip  
Dewalt electric drill  
Hex head lag screw 1/4 inch  
Ryobi 12 volt Cordless drill
Ryobi lithium batteries (2)
Ryobi electric radial saw with extension cords   
Titanium drill bit set

Michael works for a program called Uncommon Good that teaches students about green energy. His home is located in Upland, California, a beautiful neighborhood with mature trees in a rural setting. He had just purchased a century-old home and wanted to preserve its look. Being a principal member of Uncommon Good, he was using the house to teach others how to go green. He called my repair service to repair his Japanese futon bed.

This posts show the six steps to secure the futon feet. 

Step 1: Fig.1 shows the the hardware plugs have fallen out of the wood footer that houses the lag screws that keep the structure safe. 
Step 2: Fig.2 shows a top view of the lag screw and the plastic insert to keep it secure in the wood leg.

Step 3: Fig.3 shows a Stimson Bracket will be used to secure this bed. This one  is on the side securing the side board to the existing head board. The bracket was secured using self drilling metal screws.

Step 4: Fig.4 shows that now the other side is being done notice that the bit holder is screwing a screw into the metal frame.

Step 5: Fig.5 and fig.6 shows another bracket is placed in the middle of the bed frame.

How to Create and Install Xenon Pucks into a Bedroom Light Tier - Part 2 of 8 - The Tools

18-Volt Ryobi Cordless Screwdriver
Aviation Tin Snips
Bit holder with Phillip bit
Claw hammer
Commercial Electric® 3 Light Xenon Task
          and Accent Light Kit (surface mount)
Electrical tape (black)
Galvanized flat sheet metal (36 in by 48 in)
Jewelers Precision Screwdriver Set
Marking pen (any color)
Metal Hole saw kit
Nail setter (pointed end)
Needlenose pliers
Scissors
Spring clips (small)

Early in our marriage we received a bed set with a light tier over the bed. It had side drawers tiers tall enough to hold over the mirror a bridge that housed 3-incandescent lights that could be dimmable from a switch within the headboard. Over time the electrical wiring started to crack and was deemed unsafe. This posts shows the tools needed for this project.  

This post shows eleven steps that shows all the tools needed to get this project finished.  

Step 1: Fig.1 through fig.3 shows the 18-Volt Ryobi cordless screwdriver with 2-inch circular metal hole saw kit, aviation snip, and #8 coarse metal screws. These tools will be used to drill a hole in the galvanized steel which is the foundation of the lamp.

Step 2: Fig.4 and fig.5 shows a Ryobi cordless screwdriver with Dewalt 3-inch circular saw. These tools will be used to cut through the galvanized steel to allow the electrical plug to go through the middle to the light base. The spring will hold the base in place.

Step 3: Fig.6 shows a claw hammer and a nail setter. These tools will be used to place a screw hole in the galvanized base plate.

Step 4: Fig.7 shows the a Ryobi titanium drill set, will be used to drill through the sheet metal.

Step 5: Fig.8 shows a screw organizer. This kit stored the #8 sheet metal screws.

Step 6: Fig.9 shows a bit holder. The bit holder will hold the drills, and Phillip bit to cut and screw into the sheet metal to hold the lamp in place.

Step 7: Fig.10 shows emery cloth used as sand paper for metal to remove any sharp metal shards.

Step 9: Fig.12 and fig.13 shows a generic metal hole saw kit that includes the arbor and the base nut to make the hole saw. This kit will be used to cut through the metal lamp.

Step 10: Fig.14 shows black vinyl electric tape. The tape will be used to prevent the lamp wires from being damaged. Fig.15 shows the Xenon

      How to Repair Japanese Futon Bed - Part 1 of 5 - The Tools

      Supplies and Tools:

      Ryobi Electric Radial saw with extension cords

He had received a huge box and they put the bed together the night before the wedding. 

      This post shows the five steps that will be used for this project. 

      Step 1: Fig.1 upper right shows the bed as it came from the box.
      Step 2: Fig.2 shows Dewalt electric drill with a oxide metal drill set.

      Step 3: Fig.3 shows a Ryobi radial saw used to cut the replacement center board on the bed to the correct size.

      Step 4: Fig.4 shows a Ryobi 12 Volt Cordless drill with bit holder and a 1/16 Titanium drill.

      Step 5: Fig.6 shows one of several the bit holder has a 1/4 inch zinc hex head lag screw with a zinc flat washer that was used in the new padded headboard for the futon bed.
